Official Press Release: MIAMI DOLPHINS STAR AND FORMER LSU TIGER, JARVIS LANDRY, RETURNS TO HIS HOMETOWN FOR A DAY OF YOUTH BUILDING AT HIS THIRD ANNUAL GIVE BACK EVENT
Lutcher, LA – Friday, July 14, 2017 – Two-time NFL Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry returned to his hometown of Lutcher, La. for his third annual Jarvis Landry GiveBack at Lutcher High School on Friday. The event hosted more than 120 boys, ages 11 through 13 from St. James Parish for a morning of mentoring with Landry and the Lutcher Bulldogs football coaching staff.
Landry awarded his inaugural Building Winners Academic Scholarship to Sloan Brignac, who graduated Lutcher High School in May and will attend Loyola University in New Orleans this fall. Landry also presented Brignac a 43-inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart TV, donated by event sponsor TCL. The scholarship will continue to be awarded annually to one graduating senior at Lutcher High School for the amount of $5,000.
“This event has become something I take a lot of pride in,” said Landry. “It’s important to me to give back to the community that raised me and made me the man I am today. I was in their shoes not too long ago, and I know how impressionable they can be, and it’s important for people in my position to take the time to give back to their hometown. Also, I couldn’t be more excited for Sloan, who is a very deserving recipient of our first scholarship.”
The morning began with Landry sharing his story with them of how he went from a local child at Lutcher High, to the NFL Pro bowl. Afterwards, Landry and the coaching staff took the kids out onto the game field of the 2016 Louisiana state 3A champions, for an hour-long series of workouts.
Lunch was catered by TJ Ribs and Pepsi, after which, each child received a custom designed Spray Ground backpack, filled with school supplies and other items donated by ACCO Brands, the Miami Dolphins, Ethika, Cliff Bar, Pop Chips and 3M. Event sponsors TCL and the Gaidry Law Group out of Baton Rouge contributed sponsorship to the event.
Landry will end the day by working out with local high school wide receivers in a private training session on the Lutcher High football field.
